Frequently Asked Questions

What photo size is required for TNPSC applications?

TNPSC typically requires a passport-size photo of 3.5cm × 4.5cm at 200 DPI, resulting in roughly 280×354 pixels, with the file size under 20KB in JPEG format. Use the "By File Size" mode set to 20KB after resizing to the required dimensions.

What are the SSC photo size requirements?

SSC CGL and SSC CHSL require a passport-size photo (200×230 pixels recommended) in JPEG format, under 50KB. For the signature, the standard is 140×60 pixels under 20KB.

Can I resize an image to a specific file size in KB?

Yes. Switch to the "By File Size" tab, select a preset (20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB) or type a custom value, and the tool will reduce the image quality and scale as needed to hit the target.

How do I maintain the aspect ratio when resizing?

The "Maintain aspect ratio" checkbox is on by default in the "By Dimensions" mode. When checked, changing the width automatically updates the height proportionally so the image is not distorted.

What is the best output format for exam photos?

JPEG (JPG) is the best choice for exam photos — it produces small file sizes while keeping acceptable quality. PNG is better when you need a transparent background or lossless quality. WebP offers the best compression but is not always accepted by older government portals.
